The New York Jets are on the road today after a much needed respite as they square off against the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Start time in this afternoon’s skirmish between the Jets and Seahawks is set for 4:05pm ET (CBS). Given its disastrous preseason, New York surprised some with its 2-1 start, but those who doubted the Jets were justified in their thoughts as the team lost four of five games heading into last week’s bye.
Whether or not the break did New York any good remains to be seen, but there were no shortage of improvement to be made. The Jets presently rank 27th in the league in yards per game and their defense is yielding an average of 25 points per contest (24th in the NFL).
Those numbers would suggest Rex Ryan’s crew is in trouble this afternoon. Seattle is not an explosive offensive team, but it runs the ball well and Russell Wilson appears to be improving with each passing week. The Seahawks also field one of the toughest and stingiest defenses in the league.
Seattle is allowing just 17.1 points and 309.2 yards per game and it is tied for the league lead in interceptions (17) while sitting fourth in forced fumbles (10).
Add to that one of the league’s best home field advantages, and Seattle no longer looks like a nice place to visit. Carroll’s squad is 4-0 at home this season with wins over Dallas, Green Bay, New England, and Minnesota, so it seems unlikely the Jets will hand them their first loss at CenturyLink Field.
