Despite yesterday’s tragic events at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs will play host to the Carolina Panthers this afternoon. However, after Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher took the life of his girlfriend and then ended his own yesterday morning, use of the word is more than an exaggerated attempt to describe a team’s poor play, it is a fitting description for everything surrounding the franchise.

How Kansas City and its head coach, Romeo Crennel, who witnessed Belcher commit suicide, can think about football right now is anyone guess, but the team has elected to play today’s game, perhaps, in an attempt to focus their attention elsewhere.

The line, which opened with Carolina laying 2.5 points, is now up to 4.5 points; an indication that the odds makers and betting public are also wondering how the Chiefs can perform adequately under such circumstances.

Truth be told, and it is no secret, Kansas City has not performed adequately at all anyway, particularly at home where it is 0-6 and losing by an average of 12.3 points per game.

The Panthers, at 3-8 overall, will not be mistaken for a great team anytime soon, but they are 2-3 on the road and they have been competitive in every game with the exception of two (Giants, Broncos).

The nation will be pulling for Kansas City, but it will not matter. Carolina wins going away.
