NFL Sunday Baltimore Ravens vs Kansas City Chiefs: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

http://cmsimg.news-leader.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=DO&Date=20121002&Category=SPORTS0304&ArtNo=310020029&Ref=AR&MaxW=640&Border=0&Chiefs-Crennel-sticks-Cassel

The Baltimore Ravens are in the heartland today to face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Start time in this AFC clash is scheduled for 1:00pm ET on CBS. NFL Sunday odds are favoring the visiting Ravens at -6.5 against the spread; the game total is set at 46.5 points. The Chiefs are a +235 moneyline play ($100 wins $235) to win the game outright.

The Ravens had a whirlwind first quarter of the season, one that saw them play four games in 17 days, but they survived the gauntlet with a near perfect 3-1 record. Baltimore’s lone loss came on the road in Philadelphia where the Eagles needed a last second touchdown to secure a one point victory.

The Ravens should be well rested for today’s meeting with the Chiefs, though. They last took the field on Thursday, September 27th when they took out their division rival Cleveland 23-16 as a 13 point home favorite.

Kansas City may offer Baltimore a reprieve in more ways than one. The Chiefs, at 1-3 have been a disappointment thus far as many expected them to contend for the AFC West title. Not only has KC dropped three of their first four, they have done so by an average of 17 points per game.

The main culprit in the Chiefs horrific start: turnovers. Kansas City, despite fielding the league’s fourth most productive offense (418.5 yards per game) and the league’s 13th ranked defense (334 yards per game allowed), sits in the AFC West cellar along side Oakland thanks to a -13 turnover margin. Holding that statistic’s hand, of course, is beleaguered quarterback Matt Cassel.

Cassel has thrown five touchdowns to seven interceptions and he has four fumbles as well. He was so bad last week against San Diego that head coach Romeo Crennel mentioned backup Brady Quinn possibly getting some snaps with the first team offense in practice this week.

What does all this mean for today’s game with the Ravens? One of two things: either the Chiefs play a mistake free football game and hand Baltimore an unexpected loss or they suffer another blowout and Quinn becomes the starting quarterback the remainder of the season. Let’s go with the former, this is the NFL after all.

Free Pick: Take the Chiefs +6.5.
