The Bucs and Redskins will close out their respective preseason slates tonight with a battle at FedEX Field in Landover, Maryland. This evening’s exhibition contest has a scheduled start time of 7:00pm ET. Tampa Bay is drawing +170 moneyline odds to finish the preseason with a 3-1 record.

The Buccaneers were none too impressive in their week two preseason showing against Tennessee, losing 30-7 on their home field, but they did turn in a solid performance last Friday against New England.

Tampa Bay outscored the Patriots 20-7 in the first half and went on to win the game 30-28. The club’s passing totals were not jaw dropping as it finished with 151 yards on 26 pass attempts, but it did average 4.6 yards per carry on 29 rushes.

While winning would be a nice way to finish a decent preseason for the Bucs and their new head coach Greg Schiano, this evening’s contest will be more about filling out the roster. Tampa Bay has several position groups that need quality depth, including wide receiver and defensive backfield.

Those factors and Mike Shanahan’s obvious emphasis on winning in the preseason (51-30 straight up, 43-33-2 against the spread) has the odds makers siding with the Redskins. Granted, Washington is going to sit Robert Griffin III tonight, but the performance of the team’s other quarterback draft pick, Kirk Cousins, in a 31-33 loss to the Bears probably has the coaching staff feeling good about its chances.

Cousins, who will get the start tonight after throwing just one pass last week, had a so-so NFL debut against the Bills, but he looked like a pro bowler in a week two meeting with Chicago, completing 18-of-23 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns.
