Tonight’s NBA Wednesday action features a battle between Pacific Division bottom feeders Sacramento and Phoenix at the Sleep Train Arena in California. Start time in this evening’s less than marquee matchup is scheduled for 10:00pm ET. Phoenix, which will feature a new head coach tonight in Lindsey Hunter, is drawing +135 moneyline odds.
Phoenix horrendous start to the season finally cost Alvin Gentry his job. The Suns and Gentry parted ways last week following a 98-94 home loss to the Bucks. Phoenix had won 24 consecutive home games against Milwaukee prior to last week’s lost, a statistic that may have spurred the franchise to move sooner rather than later in regard to Gentry.
Taking over for Gentry is former NBA journeyman, Lindsey Hunter. Hunter most definitely has his work cut out for him as the 13-28 Suns have dropped 12 of their last 14 games and currently trail the Pacific leading Clippers by 18 games.
Sacramento’s present position is not much better, though. The Kings, who have their own brand of turmoil going on (will they or won’t move to Seattle?), are a mere 2.5 games ahead of the Suns in the division standings.
Nonetheless, Sacramento has played a little better of late, winning three of its last five games to bring its record to 16-26 overall. Despite the mini upswing, Phoenix still looks like the better play this evening.
Hunter’s presence should serve to light a spark in the Suns, if only for a while, and, frankly, they may not need much a spark to get past the Kings. Phoenix has won the last four games in this series and it is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games as a road dog against a Pacific opponent with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points.
