The New Mexico Lobos travel to take on the Colorado State Rams tonight in Mountain West College Basketball. The game is scheduled for an 11:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the Betting Odds for the game have the Rams favored by a comfortable margin to get the win tonight.
Colorado State has peeled off 20 wins to this point in the season, piling up 13 wins in the non-conference. Mountain West action has them sitting in third place for the standings, trailing Wyoming, San Diego State and Boise State. The Cowboys picked up two wins over Colorado State while Boise also owns a victory over the Rams.
New Mexico blew out Colorado State in the first meeting between these two clubs as well, beating up the Rams by 13 points. Colorado State was ranked 24th back then but didn't shoot the basketball well. New Mexico connected for 51 percent of their shots in the game and got 15 points from Sam Logwood.
The Rams can score points, averaging better than 73 per game, which is 10 points more per game on average than New Mexico averages. The Rams are a better rebounding team and have posted a 12-1 record in home games this season, which should have Larry Eustachy and his group ready to go. The Rams are coming off a close win against UNLV and recently blew out Fresno State at home as well.
J.J. Avila is one of the best players in the conference, leading the Rams in scoring (15.6 ppg), rebounding (7.9), assists (3.1) and steals (2.0) per game. The senior forward scored just six points against New Mexico the first time around and will need a better effort tonight.
Colorado State will win the rebounding battle, will play at their own pace and avenge the earlier season loss to the Lobos.
