The Miami Dolphins will look for their first preseason win tonight when they face the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas (8:30pm ET start time). Unfortunately for Fins fans, the odds makers are anticipating a donut in the win column for Miami. Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys NFL Preseason Week 4 Odds have Tony Romo and company listed as a -2.5 against the spread home favorite and a -140 moneyline favorite to win the game outright. This evening’s game total is set at 37 points with the Under favored slightly at -115 odds.
The Cowboys are a team most pundits believe can contend for a division title, even in the top heavy NFC East, but health will play a role in the team’s playoff hopes. Dallas has been hampered by injury throughout training camp and the preseason, which could pose problems for a squad that opens the season with back-to-back road games against the Giants and Seahawks.
Despite their injury issues, the Cowboys are 2-1 in exhibition play and they have outscored the opposition 30-6 in the first half. Dallas was particularly impressive in last week’s 20-19 win over St. Louis as Tony Romo completed 9-of-13 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns and DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones combined for 60 yards on 11 carries.
Tonight will be more about evaluating the reserves than looking for some kind of offensive outburst from the team’s starters. All 32 NFL squads must be at the mandatory roster limit of 53 by Friday, and the Pokes have as much need to rest their best players as any team in the league.
Miami will take the same approach into tonight’s contest, and it would appear few jobs are safe in South Florida. The Dolphins sent cornerback Vontae Davis to the Colts earlier this week and their lack of depth at most positions suggests club brass could be actively scouring the waiver wire over the weekend.
Week four of the preseason gives fringe players an opportunity to play themselves in or out of a job, but there may be some unexpected Dolphins on the bubble come Friday.
