The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers meet up again tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:08 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv as well as locally in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Royals favored to pick up the win on the road.
Kansas City gets another start from Johnny Cueto in this one. He was dealt a no decision in his first start for the Royals, he threw six innings at Toronto last week and surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. That game was on the road, but Cueto still struck out seven and gave his team a chance to win.
Current Tigers are hitting just .115 off Cueto in 26 minimal at bats, Miguel Cabrera has homered but he's obviously still on the disabled list. Only Ian Kinsler and Anthony Gose have a single base hit additionally. The Tigers have not been a great team at the plate post All-Star break, collecting an average of just .246 in that time. Facing off against Cueto tonight could prove to be another tough spot.
The Tigers just sent GM Dave Dombrowski packing, it appears there might be a change in the team moving forward as well. Owner Mike Illitch wants to have a winner on the field and has been willing to pay in the past, but something feels off about this move. How will the team respond moving forward?
Tonight Matt Boyd gets the ball for Detroit, he was picked up in the David Price deal to Toronto. Boyd has really taken it on the chin in limited starts in the pros, going 0-2 with an almost 15 ERA this season. Boyd was tattooed by both Texas and Boston in 6 2/3 innings combined, where he surrendered 11 earned runs on 15 hits — including five home runs.
The Royals are the best team in the American League and they will have quality at bats tonight against the youngster. Boyd has a promising future, but it could be a rough one tonight.
