Japan has looked very solid in their four matches to date. The defending champions won all three of their group stage matches and knocked off the Netherlands in the opening knockout stage. The Japanese have been in close matches the entire tournament, which should work to their benefit.
Australia survived the Group of Death, actually finished second behind the United States. Australia had its biggest win, though, in the knockout stage when they beat Brazil 1-0 last week. The Australians get to continue in the tournament but having to face Japan can't make the situation bright.
Japan has some nice experience and playing consistently in close matches will allow them to be comfortable in this one. Australia is going to have to bring a very strong effort and look to get one early on. The total goals in this match are listed at just two because Japan is not a team that surrenders a lot of goals. Only Cameroon and Netherlands have scored on the Japanese, each collecting one tally.
This will be a low-scoring match, but an entertaining one. Japan finds a way.
