No. 2 meets No. 21 tonight as USC travels to Palo Alto to take on the Stanford Cardinal. This evening’s College Football Saturday battle has a scheduled start time of 7:30pm ET; it will be broadcast live on FOX. USC vs Stanford Odds have the visiting Trojans listed as a -7.5 against the spread favorite; tonight’s game total is set at 56 points.
What a difference an Andrew Luck makes. When these two teams met last season USC found itself a +7 dog on its home field. The number proved to be near spot on as Luck guided the Cardinal to a thrilling 56-48 triple overtime victory.
With Luck now suiting up for the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and Matt Barkley still tossing the rock for the Trojans, the roles are reversed in this rivalry series. Stanford will play host as a 7.5 underdog as it attempts to prove its former signal caller was not the only going in Palo Alto.
Through two games Stanford has presented a lackluster case, though. The Cardinal were nearly upset by San Jose State in their opener (20-17) and, while they stomped Duke 50-13 last Saturday, Josh Nunes and company were out-gained 385 to 373 by the Blue Devils (three turnovers). Suffice it to say Barkley and his talented cohorts will not allow Stanford to duplicate that stat tonight.
The betting public seems to be backing the Trojans in this conference tilt as 75 percent of the spread money is behind USC, and yet, the line has dropped from nine to eight or even 7.5 points in some cases.
