It is another mid-major College Football Saturday showdown as the MAC’s Ohio Bobcats square off against Conference USA squad Marshall at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia (6:30pm ET start time). Ohio vs Marshall Odds like the visitor here with the Bobcats giving six points to the Thundering Herd. Tonight’s game marks the third consecutive year these two programs have butted heads on the gridiron. Marshall earned a 24-23 victory in Huntington in 2010 and Ohio more than evened the score with a 44-7 pasting of the Thundering Herd last September in Athens.
Last year’s lopsided result, which featured six Marshall turnovers, and the Bobcats 2-0 start has the odds makers expecting another win for Frank Solich’s troops. The Thundering Herd could present a bigger challenge than most are inclined to believe, though.
Granted, Marshall did not show well in a 69-34 loss to West Virginia in its season opener, but Ohio is not on par with the Mountaineers. The Bobcats offense, which averaged over 30 points per game last season and notched 51 in last week’s win over New Mexico State, will find its points to be sure, but the Herd should as well.
Marshall struggled on offense last season, but with eight starters back this year, including quarterback Rakeem Cato, it has shown improvement. As mentioned, the Herd tallied 34 in their opener with West Virginia, and they too crested the 50 mark last weekend, whipping Western Carolina 52-24.
