The N.C. State Wolfpack are taking on the Vanderbilt Commodores today in the 2016 Camping World Independence Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. The college football odds for the game have the Wolfpack favored to pick up the win in this one.

Vanderbilt is a great story. Derek Mason has led this team to a 6-6 record, having beaten Ole Miss and Tennessee in the final two weeks of the regular season to become bowl eligible. They have really done a solid job on the defensive end of the football, especially given the rough and rugged SEC. Vandy won just three times in conference this season, but also dropped four SEC?games by a single possession. In the coming years, Vandy is expecting to turn things around and find a way to win those types of games.

Teams that win inside the 20s can be successful in one-game situations. Vandy is one of those clubs, having scored 95.5 percent of the time they reach the end zone while holding opponents to just 65.9 percent scoring on the defensive side. Each ranks as the top overall mark in college football this season.

N.C. State could heavily on Jaylen Samuels, who is a unique player. Samuels is one of just seven Power 5 school players the last decade to throw for a touchdown, rush and catch four touchdowns. Interestingly enough, Joe Mixon of Oklahoma also accomplished the feat this season. Samuels hasn’t caught a TD since October though and doesn’t have a single game with more than five carries. That’s due to him being a tight end, but he has just 12 catches the last three games.

Matthew Dayes is also a great option for the Wolfpack, he rushed for better than 1,100 yards. N.C. State is better offensively, but they are going to have to score once they reach the red zone. The Wolfpack have scored on just 75.5 percent of their trips there this season, which ranks 117th in the country. Reaching that level and converting could be the difference between winning and losing in this one.
