Big East rivals Pittsburgh and Syracuse will tangle in a College Football Friday contest at the Carrier Dome in upstate New York tonight. Start time in this evening’s game is set at 7:00pm ET; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. Pittsburgh vs Syracuse Odds are favoring the Orange at -1.5 against the spread while the game total is set at 58.5 points.
Pittsburgh’s season got off to a rough start with the school dropping its opener 31-17 to FCS school Youngstown State before getting drubbed 34-10 at Cincinnati. The Panthers, potentially, turned things around, though, with an unexpected 35-17 home win over a sloppy Virginia Tech team.
Pitt had an opportunity to build on the confidence it engendered with its destruction of the Hokies when it faced Gardner-Webb two Saturdays ago. Paul Chryst’s troops did just that, drilling the Bulldogs 55-10. The Panthers racked up 626 total yards in the route while limiting Gardner-Webb to 127 yards.
Pittsburgh can further boost its morale this evening as it prepares to head into the meat of its conference schedule. In order to do so it will need to get past a 1-3 Syracuse team that has faced a fairly salty early schedule as Northwestern, USC, and an improved Minnesota team has all matched up against the Orange.
While these two schools appear to be on more equal footing this season, the Panthers have owned this rivalry series of late. Pitt is 9-1 straight up and 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 meetings with Syracuse and it is 4-1 in its last five trips to the Carrier Dome.
