Many wondered just how well Cam Newton would perform last season given the fact that he attempted only 280 passes during his final year at Auburn. Newton erased answered all questions in emphatic fashion, though, throwing for 4051 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for 706 yards and 14 scores.
Newton’s presence along with the expected progression of a defense that is in the second year of Ron Rivera’s system, has many believing Carolina can build on last season's efforts.
Count Cantor Gaming of Las Vegas among those as it expects the Panthers to match or exceed last year’s six wins. Cantor’s 2012 NFL regular season point spreads (weeks one through 16) have Newton and company listed as a favorite in six games and as a pick’em in two others, suggesting eight or nine victories is not beyond reason for the Panthers.
