The Chris Petersen era at Boise State has never featured a season with fewer than 10 wins, but some are wondering if this year’s Broncos squad has the chops to keep the program’s tremendous run intact. While Boise State is not being viewed as a serious contender for the national title, the latest 2013 BCS Odds are not totally dismissive of the school either with the team getting +7500 odds ($100 to win $7500) to win the BCS National Championship.
Boise State has enjoyed an unbelievable decade, posting a 118-13 record since 2002 while earning unblemished marks in 2006 (13-0) and 2009 (14-0). Yet, some are expecting Boise to take a step back this year after some big off-season losses. Fourteen starters departed over the spring, including the NCAA’s all-time wins leader at quarterback, Kellen Moore.
Also gone are leading rusher Doug Martin, leading receiver Tyler Shoemaker, top tackler Byron Hout, and leading pass rusher Shea McClellin.
The program, which returns 48 lettermen, remains in good hands with Petersen, though, and the team’s soft schedule should yield a good number of wins. The Broncos will face difficult tests against Michigan State, BYU, Southern Miss, Fresno State, and Nevada; however, they should be favored in each of those games with the exception of their season opener against the Spartans in East Lansing.
