2015 Major League Baseball American League East Odds

The American League East is one of the most competitive divisions in baseball and this year should be another example of that. The 2015 Major League Baseball American League East Odds have the Boston Red Sox favored to win the division, but all four other teams also have a good shot.

The Red Sox are looking to rebound from a poor season a year ago, the Orioles won 96 games and claimed the division title. The New York Yankees are getting older while the Toronto Blue Jays opened up the checkbook and the Tampa Bay Rays are still subscribing to their theory of holding onto players as long as possible in the early years before selling high.

Boston Red Sox +175

The Red Sox are favored to the win the division, and they should be better than the 71 wins from 2014. The pitching will be improved with Rick Porcello, Justin Masterson, and Wade Miley joining the team. Offensive additions of Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sanchez should give the Red Sox a great lineup, paired with Shane Victorino, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz. Boston has the best offensive club on paper, but will they be able to have a successful year at the plate?

Toronto Blue Jays +320

Surprising that the Blue Jays are garnering the second-highest odds in the division? Adding Josh Donaldson and Russell Martin will be big for the Jays, who still have Jose Reyes, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion in the lineup. Pitching will be huge for them and solid years from R.A. Dickey and Mark Buehrle are imperative to their success.

Baltimore Orioles +340

The Orioles won the division last season, which allows for some value here. A three-year run of 93, 85 and 96 wins have seen the Orioles be very solid, but they have to replace quite a bit of offense as Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis both left town. Manny Machado returns for a hopeful healthy season, but note that Chris Davis will miss the first 25 games. Adam Jones could have a big season as well. The pitching, though, might keep them from contending for a division title.

New York Yankees +400

The Yankees are being tabbed to finish fourth in the division this year and they have a ton of roster changes. Masahiro Tanaka leads the rotation that could be sleepy good this season as C.C. Sabathia will be probably the third starter. He’s obviously not as good as he used to be, but Sabathia staying healthy all year will be big. The bullpen gets an added boost with Andrew Miller after David Robertson left via free agency. The order has quite a bit of older players, but there’s still a lot of talent there.

Tampa Bay Rays +600

Without Joe Maddon at the helm of the Rays, it’s hard to see this team competing. They still have the gritty players and Evan Longoria is great, but can they continue to go back to the well of youth and get great play? The rotation is going to be very good, arguably the best in the division, but if they offense can’t score runs it’s going to be tough for the bullpen to consistently hold up leads without the Rays putting some numbers up from the plate.
