The Texas State Bobcats are looking for a winning season after a 6-6 campaign last year. The 2014 Texas State Bobcats Schedule has a couple of tough road games, but they will play their first four out of six games at home.
In five years under head coach Dennis Franchione, Texas State has gone 29-29. Obviously things could be a whole lot worse than they are and the Bobcats went 6-6 a season ago. One of the nice things about this Franchione team in 2014 is their returning players. More than a dozen players return that started at least six games last season, meaning they will have some experience and hopefully depth on the roster.
On of the weapons Texas State had last season was a solid kick return game as Brandon Smith averaged just under 30 yards per return in 2013, which would give the Bobcats some field position.
Texas State dropped their final three games last season after having a lot of promise after a 6-3 start. One of the returners on the roster this season will be the Sun Belt's leading rusher last season in Robert Lowe, who gained almost 950 yards on the ground. They should have one of the better stables in the conference as well with Chris Nutall coming back to school as well — he gained almost 500 yards on the ground.
The Bobcats will return sophomore quarterback Tyler Jones, who threw for better than 1,100 yards last season.
Reports have the Bobcats changing their defense this season again with a 4-2-5 system being implemented. They have some solid linebackers coming back to school but the secondary is young in spots.
They're only a couple of years into FBS play and recruiting isn't easy. But, Franchione has proven he can win and has gone .500 so far in his five season at the helm of Texas State. This could be a year where they get over that .500 plateau but they do have tough games on the road, including Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama and even Georgia State to end the season.
