Despite last year’s epic Super Bowl run, the defending champion New York Giants have never been considered a front runner to win the Lombardi Trophy in 2013, until now that is. The latest 2013 Super Bowl Odds at offshore bookmaker Sportsbook.ag have the Giants, along with the 49ers and Texans, listed at +500 moneyline odds ($100 wins $500) to win the championship.
New York Giants (+500): Heading into week six the Giants were a +1500 moneyline play to win the Super Bowl; apparently the defending champions have done enough since then to engender some confidence in their ability to defend the title. Why have the odds makers had a change of heart? How about New York’s 26-3 thrashing of the 49ers in San Francisco followed by a 27-23 home win over what appears to be an upstart Redskins team. No matter the opponent, no matter the situation, this Giants team seems to have the right answer when its needed most.
San Francisco 49ers (+500): Despite the whipping it took from the Giants, San Francisco remains a Lombardi favorite. In fact, the Niners are still listed at the same 5 to 1 Super Bowl odds they were drawing two weeks ago. That might change, though, should the offense continue to flounder, and that remains a distinct possibility with three good defenses on the docket in Arizona, St. Louis, and Chicago.
Houston Texans (+500): Two weeks ago the Texans were a +350 favorite to take home the Lombardi, but a 42-24 home loss to the Packers on October 14th somewhat changed the perception of Houston. The Texans 43-13 pounding of Baltimore last weekend swung the pendulum back in its favor, though.
