The Oklahoma Sooners are on the road in college football action on Saturday night, taking on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on?FOX. The 85 points in this one seems like a ton to reach, but Oklahoma surrenders 33 points per game on average and the Red Raiders give up an average of better than 40 points per game, which ranks 124th nationally. Neither one is very good for the respective schools and the defenses could be getting another workout tonight as both offenses will be looking to take advantage. Oklahoma has played considerably better since losing two of its first three games to Houston and Ohio State.
The Sooners have won three consecutive games, all in Big 12 play, and the Sooners are rolling with an average of 45 points in those games. The defense played well last week too, holding Kansas State to only 17 points.
Baker Mayfield has lost his Heisman hype, but he can still lead the Sooners to a conference title and quite a bit of remaining success in the regular season. Mayfield has completed better than 70 percent of his passes this season and thrown for more than 10 yards per attempt. The two interceptions against Ohio State proved to be a bit of a problem in that contest, he’s also thrown three picks the last two games but Oklahoma has still been able to win those games.
Texas Tech scores a ton of points, 48.8 to be exact, which ranks fifth nationally. Patrick Mahomes II tosses for all kinds of yards for the Red Raiders in that system and he is completing more than 71 percent of his passes.
Texas Tech can score with anybody in the country but that defense is really bad. They’ve also dropped two straight games overall to Kansas State and West Virginia, the Red Raiders scored only 55 points combined in those two losses.
