The BYU Cougars are hosting the Toledo Rockets in college football action on Friday night. The game is scheduled for a 10:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. What a neat game for a late Friday night between a pair of teams that are on opposite ends of the win/loss column. Toledo enters the contest with a 3-0 record and a stout defense that is surrendering just 10 points per game to date while the offense has piled up almost 43 points per game to help out that defense. On the flip side, BYU has lost three straight games to power five conference opponents by a combined seven points.
This is the first matchup between BYU and Toledo and they’re both breaking in new coaches. The Cougars have an excellent quarterback in Taysom Hill, though he’s really having a tough season to date. Hill has seven interceptions already on the campaign compared to four touchdowns, three of those interceptions came last weekend at West Virginia.
Toledo has used a rushing attack that is averaging better than five yards per carry so far this season. The Rockets have not played the same type of competition as BYU, but Toledo is also a team that won’t be intimidated by the Cougars or their home crowd.
Interestingly enough, a 1-3 BYU squad is favored in this contest against an undefeated team. Last week against Fresno State, the Rockets scored double digits in all four quarters as Logan Woodside threw for three touchdowns as they piled up better than 615 yards of total offense.
BYU has been snake bitten by some bad luck and the only game they’ve played to date was a 3-point loss against UCLA. The Cougars are better equipped to play in this one and have a defense capable of making some key stops against the Rocket offense.
