The Tampa Bay Rays are hosting the Detroit Tigers tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. start time and the MLB Odds for the game have the Rays favored to pick up the victory at home.

Jordan Zimmermann has been an excellent free agent signing for the Detroit Tigers, he’s 9-4 on the season with a decent 3.81 ERA. Detroit has lost three of his last four starts, though, as the righty has struggled a bit in those starts, though, giving up 19 earned runs in the four starts. Two of those — against Cleveland and Toronto — save Zimmermann surrender seven earned runs. At the beginning of the month he had one of the better ERAs among American League starters at 2.52, but the rough outings have caused it to rise.

Tonight he’s taking on a Rays team that has really struggled, recently Tampa lost a tone of games in a row but rebounded to win two of three from the Red Sox. Tampa Bay isn’t an overpowering offense and in his career, Zimmermann has faced them in 73 at bats, a small sample size, where Tampa Bay is hitting just .274.

Logan Morrison has three home runs, Steve Pearce has homered twice while Curt Casali, Corey Dickerson and Steven Souza Jr. all have gone deep against him as well.

The Rays will send Jake Odorizza, who is 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA on the season over 16 starts. Tampa has lost each of his last two starts and he hasn’t won a decision since June 8. Current Tigers are hitting .257 against him over 70 at bats, nobody has a home run against him.

Detroit just won two straight and really needs to have a successful road trip. Zimmermann on the bump tonight gives them a real chance.
