The Detroit Tigers are hosting the Miami Marlins tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. start time and the MLB Odds for the game have the Tigers favored to pick up the win at home.

Mike Pelfrey has been a terrible free agent signing for Detroit. He’s 1-7 on the year with a 4.91 ERA in 14 starts, opponents have clubbed an average of .328 against him over better than 80 innings. He’s a career 4.54 ERA guy and it felt like Detroit rushed into the signing early in free agency. The Tigers will need him to have one of his best starts of the season in this home matchup tonight. In his most recent action Pelfrey came out of the bullpen and threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings against Cleveland, scattering just three hits. Detroit needs that type of effort tonight.

Miami, 41-35 and just 3.5 games behind the Nationals in the National League East, comes in having won two straight and seven of 10. The Marlins are 20-16 in road tilts, giving them a more than decent record away from home.

Tonight the Marlins send Adam Conley to the bump, he’s 4-4 with a strong 3.56 ERA over 15 starts. He’s given up just six home runs this season and will look to keep the Tigers inside the spacious Comerica Park tonight. Conley is coming off a great start last time out, having thrown eight full innings in a win over Atlanta where the Braves had just four hits against him.

The Tigers have struggled in Pelfrey’s starts, but they are a solid home team that can hit the ball. Detroit is just 4-6 the last 10 games overall and they need to get it in gear tonight, expect there to be some runs scored. The Marlins just took three of four from the Cubs and have to be feeling good about themselves.
