The Boston Red Sox are hosting the Baltimore Orioles tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Red Sox favored to pick up the victory at home.
The Orioles come into tonight’s game as the last remaining unbeaten team in Major League Baseball at 7-0. Baltimore has been in a ton of close games as well, having just two games end with them winning by more than two runs.
Mark Trumbo has been an excellent pickup for them, he’s clubbing an average of .464 while both Manny Machado and Chris Davis are driving the ball as well. Baltimore can be a scary team if they hit the ball consistently, though the normal lows will happen during the season. Pitching will be key for them as well, the staff isn’t great but there is the potential for them to be a pretty good unit this season. Tonight Ubaldo Jimenez gets the start against Boston. He picked up a win already this season over Minnesota, striking out nine in seven innings of work where he allowed just one earned run.
Against current Red Sox, Jimenez has faced them 192 times and allowed a .255 average. Pablo Sandoval, the big ole panda, has two bombs in 39 at bats and is hitting .359 against him. David Ortiz also has a home run while Dustin Pedroia has nine hits in 24 at bats (.375).
Boston counters with Joe Kelly, he gave up seven earned runs over three innings against Toronto. The Jays had a commanding lead in that one, but the Red Sox battled back to pick up the victory.
Kelly is allowing current Orioles to hit .214 against him in 70 at bats. Both Pedro Alvarez and Caleb Joseph have hit home runs off him while Davis has clubbed four hits in seven at bats.
Tonight could see another game where plenty of runs as scored. Baltimore is averaging almost six runs per game and they are hitting almost .300 as a team so far as well. Jimenez can spin another strong start here and with the run support the Orioles have been giving, they look like the play tonight.
