New York Mets -158, Miami Marlins +146
The New York Mets have struggled out to start the season, winning just two of five to begin the new year. The Marlins haven’t been any better, winning just once this season.
Tonight the Mets give the baseball to Steven Matz, who started six games last season and won four of them without a defeat on the record. Matz is a lefty that pieced together a 2.27 ERA as well, including giving up just three earned runs over 13 2/3 innings of work at home last season.
The Marlins counter with Jarred Cosart, who has some decent career numbers with a 3.54 ERA but is a game under the .500 mark all-time at 16-17. Cosart was named the Marlins’ fifth starter, earning his spot despite an injury-plagued season a year ago. The young righty was supposed to start yesterday at Washington but was moved back.
Both teams are struggling coming in offensively as the Marlins average 4.5 runs per game this season, New York is putting up less than three runs per contest and they just dropped two straight to the Phillies, being out-scored in a 6-2 margin in the two games.
If tonight’s game comes down to pitching, the Mets have an advantage. But with their recent struggles it could be tough to back them.
