Just two games remain in the Elite Eight for the NCAA Tournament, the first takes place tonight as the Virginia Cavaliers are taking on the Syracuse Orange. The game is being played inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois and it has a start time of 6:09 p.m., where it will be televised nationally on TBS. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Cavaliers favored by 8 points to pick up the win.
Virginia and Syracuse meet up in one of two all-ACC matchups in the Elite Eight today. On Saturday, both Villanova and Oklahoma, a pair of No. 2 seeds, qualified by knocking off top-seeded Kansas and Oregon to reach the Final Four.
This game between the Cavaliers and Orange will come down to defense and rebounding. Syracuse runs an impressive 2-3 zone under Jim Boeheim, they’ve been able to take advantage of circumstance to reach this Elite Eight. The Orange own wins over Dayton, Middle Tennessee State and Gonzaga, only Dayton was a single-digit seed and they were a seven. Virginia will no doubt be the best team Syracuse has played in some time and they are a tremendous defensive club.
In the past few years, Virginia had to rely on its defense to get big wins. Now the Hoos have several options offensively, Anthony Gill has played very well in the tournament to date and Malcolm Brogdon is still one of the best players left in the tournament.
Syracuse has played well enough to date, but Virginia is going to be too tough on both ends of the floor in this one.
