The NCAA Tournament continues on Sunday afternoon when the second-seeded Villanova Wildcats take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The game will be played inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and it has a start time of 12:10 p.m. while being televised nationally on CBS. The Vegas odds for the game have the Wildcats favored by 6.5 points to pick up the win and advance.
Villanova has once again reached 30 wins on the season, they had a no-doubt walkthrough in the opening round of this tournament. Jay Wright’s team picked up a 30-point win over UNC Asheville in a game where they scored at least 40 points in both halves and played well on the defensive end.
The Wildcats finished with four starters in double figures, led by Daniel Ochefu with 17 points, he hauled in 10 rebounds as well in 26 minutes of action. Wright said they would be limiting his minutes a bit in the tournament, but he still had a major impact in the opening round on Friday.
Iowa, once the No. 1 team in the country, got a put-back from Adam Woodbury as time expired to beat Temple in the first round. The Hawkeyes led that game by double digits in the first half and held an 8-point lead with under seven minutes to go, only to see the Owls storm back and force overtime. That was a good test for Iowa early in the tournament, it should help them heading into this game against Villanova.
The Hawkeyes got 23 points from Jarrod Uthoff and 16 from Peter Jok in the win, both guys will have to produce again against the Wildcats. Iowa is going to want to try and play well in the half court here, shooting the ball well and not letting Villanova get out and run. Defensively Villanova is very good and the athleticism will force Iowa to have to knock down shots.
If this game is played at a really fast pace, Iowa might not be able to keep up. If the Hawkeyes can keep it slowed down, they could remain close.
