The Purdue Boilermakers are hosting the Maryland Terrapins tonight in Big Ten College Basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Boilermakers favored to pick up the win at home.

Purdue and Maryland are both NCAA Tournament teams this season, so even a loss here tonight would not be a huge detriment to either squad. Maryland is still trying to find a way to run down Indiana in the conference standings, but it doesn’t look good. The two teams still have to play in the final game of the regular season in Bloomington, which should be a monster game.

Maryland hasn’t played since Sunday when they survived a battle with Michigan. The Terps have been lights-out on their own floor this season but also have been decent in road games, going 4-4. Their best win came over Wisconsin in early January in a close contest, there’s no reason to see this one being anything but close as well.

If Purdue wins they will have the strong interior game, taking advantage of size. On the perimeter Maryland is much better, led by Melo Trimble. He was the preseason player of the year in the conference and has played at a high level most of the season, keeping Maryland routinely in the Top 10 despite playing some tough competition.

The Boilermakers are coming off a close loss at Indiana earlier this week in a game where they put together a fantastic run late to make it close. The Hoosiers had been in control most of the game and trailed by a dozen with five minutes to go, but certainly made it interesting.

This should be a fantastic matchup and one that Purdue can win with their size and home-court advantage. Maryland plays well in big games and they still have a shot at a Big Ten title, so expect them to have a great effort today.
