The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are hosting the Illinois Fighting Illini tonight in college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Fighting Illini favored to pick up a road win.
It’s been proven many times this season that winning on the road in conference play is tough. That might not be the case here tonight as Rutgers is extremely bad. The Scarlet Knights come into tonight’s contest 6-16 overall, 0-9 in Big Ten play and they haven’t won a game since beating UMass-Lowell back on Dec. 28.
Illinois has had its struggles as well this season, but they are better than Rutgers. The Fighting Illini are just 10-12 themselves and 2-7 in league play, one of those wins was on the road at Minnesota in overtime. Illinois will have to overcome a couple of close losses in recent days, though as they had chances to beat both Ohio State and Wisconsin.
Kendrick Nunn and Malcolm Hill are the top two scorers for Illinois, between the two of them the Fighting Illini have great options offensively. Defensively Rutgers will have to slow Illinois down and find a way to rebound and keep the Fighting Illini from getting second-chance opportunities.
Michigan State just blew out Rutgers as well, the mindset cannot be very strong. The RPI is 219th in the country and the schedule doesn’t look great for a handful of games.
Illinois isn’t great either, but Rutgers is historically bad.
