The LSU Tigers are hosting the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners this afternoon in college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Sooners favored to pick up the victory on the road.
Oklahoma is arguably the most complete team in college basketball. LSU is not, but they have the best individual player, or at least the player most suited for the NBA, in Ben Simmons. He and Buddy Hield of Oklahoma are both in the hunt for national player of the year and most think it will come down to one of them.
That makes this game a bit more interesting. LSU has a light resume that could certainly use a signature win, adding a victory over the top-ranked team in the country would help. Even so, the Sooners are a strong team on the road this season and even in their two losses only got beat by a combined eight points.
Oklahoma can connect from downtown, get it inside to Ryan Spangler and the gang and run the floor as well. LSU defensively has been a bit suspect all season, yielding a less than ideal 102nd ranking in the efficiency numbers. They will have to rebound on both ends of the floor in this one to keep Oklahoma from second-chance opportunities.
The Sooners are the better team here and they are favored by a couple of possessions. Simmons is obviously an excellent player, but he won’t be able to do it himself against the best team in the country.
