The Oklahoma State Cowboys are hosting the Oklahoma Sooners tonight in college football action. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ABC. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Sooners favored to pick up this victory on the road.
Bedlam is what they call this annual rivalry between the Sooners and the Pokes, this year Oklahoma is a big favorite on the road. The Sooners rank third in the country in the college football rankings and have one shot left to remain in the hunt for a national championship. Certainly a loss here for Bob Stoops and the gang will end in them falling out of the top four spots and looking at a different bowl game.
Somehow Oklahoma State could play itself into the discussion with a win, though. The Pokes are just outside the Top 10 and would need a win plus some carnage in order to rise the seven spots or so needed, but it is possible. The Sooners should have Baker Mayfield ready to go in this one, he's been a closet Heisman Trophy candidate this season with his 33 touchdown passes this season. Mayfield also has six scores on the ground as he has been able to make some plays with his feet when needed.
Oklahoma State will have its work cut out for them on the defensive side of the football. The Pokes surrender just under 27 points per game this season, which is an average number. Both teams can obviously score points, but the team that plays better defensively gets an edge. That team is Oklahoma, which is why they are favored by a comfortable margin to pick up the win.
The combination of Mason Rudolph and J.W. Walsh can be challenging for teams to stop, they are going to need a big game tonight for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have not been effective at running the football all season and the one-dimensional offense will not help them tonight. OK State is going to have to establish some type of running game.
Oklahoma has a chance to play for a national championship, something Stoops will have his team ready for tonight. Bedlam can have some crazy things happen, but tonight Oklahoma picks up the win.
