The Oklahoma Sooners and Baylor Bears meet up tonight in a huge Big 12 College Football battle. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ABC. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Bears favored by right around a field goal to pick up the victory at home.
No doubt this is the biggest game between Big 12 teams so far this season. Both Baylor and Oklahoma have a chance at representing the conference in the college football playoff, Oklahoma State is also up there in the rankings. Oklahoma probably has the best shot with their remaining schedule, which also includes TCU and Oklahoma State — all three games are obviously going to be tough.
Oklahoma is in must-win mode, though. A second loss in conference would obviously end everything for them, expect Bob Stoops to have his boys ready to go. A loss also ends pretty much everything but a decent bowl game for Baylor, which has survived its schedule to this point, something TCU was not able to do.
The Sooners will want to bring a ton of pressure against freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who has looked pretty good in his time covering for the injured Seth Russell. Stidham has tossed nine touchdowns this season on 61 passes, Oklahoma will be the best defense he has seen, led by Eric Striker.
Don’t overlook Baker Mayfield, either. The Sooner quarterback has put up big numbers all season and Baylor doesn’t exactly have a great defense as they stuck to the out-scoring everyone formula that’s worked. Mayfield has 33 combined touchdowns on the season, that combined with Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon running the football effectively will play a major role in this one.
Oklahoma can absolutely beat Baylor. They have the better defense, a couple of stops will prove to be a big difference in this one.
