The New York Mets host the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in Game 1 of the National League Division Series. The game is scheduled for a 9:45 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TBS. Currently the Major League Baseball Betting Odds have the Dodgers favored by a comfortable margin to get the win.
Clayton Kershaw takes on Jacob deGrom tonight in a battle of two of the best lefties in the National League. Kershaw is no-doubt the best pitcher in the game still and deGrom is one of a couple of young Mets starters that could prove to be the best rotation in the game very soon.
Kershaw has had some post season blunders in his career, this year he is looking to change that. Los Angeles won seven of his last eight starts to secure a National League West crown this season and there was little doubt who would get the ball to start the post season. Kershaw was dominant at Dodger Stadium this season, going 11-3 in 17 starts with a 1.67 ERA while holding opponents to a .184 average over more than 118 innings pitched.
Current Mets own an average of .213 against Kershaw.
deGrom is also a big strikeout guy, which is why the total for this game is hovering below six runs combined. There are some great pitching matchups today in the post season games, this one might be the best one. deGrom is a youngster that obviously has no post season experience, it will be interesting to see what type of effort he brings tonight for the Mets.
He hasn't faced the Dodgers much in his career, but has kept them to an average of .175 in 57 at bats. Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Utely both have three hits to lead the way offensively. Gonzalez had two bombs in those three hits, Yasiel Puig owns one against him as well.
This should be a great matchup and being that it is the final game of the day, it seems like a fitting way to end a post season-filled Friday. deGrom is going to have to throw an amazing game, but even then it might not be enough.
