The Notre Dame Fighting Irish welcome in the Navy Midshipmen in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC. Currently the betting odds for the game have Notre Dame favorite to pick up the victory at home.
Notre Dame looked pretty solid against the triple option earlier this season, beating up on Georgia Tech and not allowing the Yellow Jackets to run free. They’re getting a similar test in this one against Navy, a team that throws even less than Georgia Tech. The Irish have to remain vigilant in their defense, not chasing Navy could-be ball carries and sticking to their spots on the field.
The Irish have one of the best players in the country in Will Fuller at receiver. He’s made the transition of DeShone Kizer from backup to starter a little easier and given the youngster a big-play target each play they pass the football. He should get a lot of targets in this contest, Notre Dame doesn’t want to mess around offensively with Navy. Just score points, play solid on defense and don’t turn the football over and Notre Dame picks up a win.
If the Irish give Navy extra possessions and the Midshipmen can establish a game on the ground and pound the rock consistently, the game will be closer.
Brian Kelly’s team is averaging a ton of points in home games, having scored 38 against Texas, 30 against Georgia Tech and 62 in the last home game against UMass. Navy’s defense has kept everyone in check this season, allowing just 15 points per game.
The Navy offense is led by Keenan Reynolds, he has nine touchdowns on the ground and two more through the air. The Midshipmen average almost six yards per carry as well.
If Notre Dame wins the turnover battle and doesn’t allow Navy to pile up a bunch of yards the Irish win comfortably.
