Top 25 College Football Picks Alabama Crimson Tide vs Ole Miss Rebels

One of the games of the day takes place in Tuscaloosa in college football action Saturday night when the Alabama Crimson Tide host the Ole Miss Rebels. The game is scheduled for a 9:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Crimson Tide favored by around a touchdown to get the job done.

Ole Miss has looked like the best team in the SEC so far through two games. The Rebels have pounded Tennessee-Martin and Fresno State, going over 70 points in each game. It’s certainly nice for them to have a couple of tune-up sessions before playing the Crimson Tide in this one, but Alabama will certainly have revenge on their minds from last year’s game. The Rebels beat Alabama 23-17 to give the Tide their only loss during the regular season.

Through two games this year Alabama has looked really good against Wisconsin, but a bit lethargic against Middle Tennessee State last week. The Crimson Tide might have been looking ahead just enough to this game against Ole Miss to cruise against MTSU last week, they won 37-10 despite being an almost five-touchdown favorite to win.

Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly has been very solid, tossing six touchdowns and better than 550 yards through the air while completing almost 73 percent of his passes. The Rebels are also rolling up 7.8 yards per carry when they’re running the football, they’ve scored nine touchdowns on the ground despite just two guys being over 100 yards.

The Rebels have an awesome group of receivers, maybe the best in the conference, with Cody Core, Quincy Adeboyejo and Laquon Treadwell. They’ve combined for six touchdowns and all are over 100 yards receiving to date, but Alabama’s defense will be the biggest test to date.

The Crimson Tide will want to hand it off to Derrick Henry. He’s a load that has scored six times to date and has 7.8 yards per carry through two games. Henry has looked like an absolute monster in his two games so far, his 5.3 yards per carry against MTSU last week actually brought his average down.

Alabama has the pedigree; they’re big and physical and love to run the football. Ole Miss has won just once all time in Tuscaloosa, losing 26 times as well. The only time they won came back in 1988 and the Crimson Tide should be ready for this one with Louisiana-Monroe on deck.

If Alabama dominates the line of scrimmage, they’ll have a chance to run the ball effectively and give Ole Miss a tough time. The spread seems a bit much though, no matter who Ole Miss has played in their opening two games. This one should be close.
