The NFL Preseason Football action continues tonight when the Atlanta Falcons take on the New York Jets. The game is scheduled for an 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Jets favored by about a single point to pick up the win.
The New York Jets looked awful in their opening game against the Detroit Lions, a loss last week. The news their starting quarterback, Geno Smith, wouldn't play really didn't give them a ton of time to prepare heading into that game, but now with an extra week of preparation the Jets should look like a better team. They're favored by a point in this one against an Atlanta team that scored 31 points in their opening win over the Tennessee Titans.
New York averaged just 2.8 yards per play in their opening loss to the Lions, a 23-3 loss. The Jets only points came on their opening drive of the game. In the final nine drives of the game all but two ended in three-and-outs or a turnover. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty and newly signed Matt Flynn should all see time under center tonight.
Atlanta looked good on both sides of the football at times in their opening win. They scored 17 early points in the first quarter, including a fumble return for a touchdown. Offensively the Falcons put up 5.3 yards per play and turned it over only once. They did allow the Titans 6.5 yards per play, but forced three Tennessee turnovers as well.
The Falcons will probably get a series or two out of Matt Ryan and the first team offense tonight. Facing a Jets defense should be a nice challenge in this second week. Both teams should play better after a full preseason game completed already, but overall Atlanta is a better team.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
