The St. John’s Red Storm take to the floor today when they play the Providence Friars in the Big East Tournament. The game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have the Friars favored by a slim margin and advance.

There are plenty of good basketball games on today and St. John’s taking on Providence certainly belongs on the short list. The Big East rivals should both be comfortably inside the NCAA Tournament field, but picking up a win here for either squad will help bolster the resume. 

St. John’s needs to regroup, though. The Red Storm just gave up 105 to Villanova in the final game of the regular season as the Wildcats put a stamp on the season, which saw them finish 16-2 in the regular season. Providence is also coming in off a loss in their finale, getting beat by Butler in a close contest.

LaDontae Henton leads the Friars in scoring at better than 20 points a game while Kris Dunn is also proven to be a very nice offensive option. The Friars can score points and look good on the offensive side of the ball, but taking on St. John’s means they’re in for a physical battle.

The Red Storm have four players averaging double digits on the season, led by D’Angelo Harrison and his near 18 points per game. 

These teams met twice during the regular season with Providence losing both games. It’s not easy to beat a team three times in a year but St. John’s looks for that accomplishment today. 

Neither team is great on the defensive end of the floor, but St. John’s does have a very nice shot-blocker in Chris Obekpa. He didn’t play against Villanova but is expected to be on the floor today. 

The difference maker will be Sir’Dominic Pointer, a big guard that can score, defend and rebound. Pointer having a nice game puts St. John’s in the winner’s circle here.
