The Indiana Hoosiers are on the road tonight in Big Ten College Basketball action when they take on the Maryland Terrapins. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the Betting Odds for the game have the Terps listed as the favorites to pick up the win.
Maryland has been a surprise to the Big Ten this season, exceeding expectations and looking to finish with a first round bye in the conference tournament. The Terrapins are tied for second place with Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue and Michigan State at 7-4 in the league and one of those teams will break free tonight for second place all alone.
It probably won't be Indiana. The Hoosiers are one of the worst teams in the league on the road, going just 2-4 overall this season. It's hard to believe they've only played six road games to date this season, but they only have three more away from home as well. That's just nine road games for the Hoosiers, which seems like fewer than most schools.
Maryland, on the other hand, is very good in home games this season. The Terps have posted a 14-1 record (same as Indiana's) on their own floor, with the lone loss coming to Virginia back in December. And as good as Maryland has been this season, they have alternated wins and losses since a Jan. 17 victory against Michigan State. One of those losses came to Indiana as Tom Crean's team blew out the Terps 89-70 at Assembly Hall.
Melo Trimble and Yogi Ferrell will be a great matchup on the court tonight. Both lead the team in scoring and are the center piece for each coach. Maryland and Indiana both have very solid supporting casts, but it's hard to ignore just how poorly Indiana is on the road this season. In Big Ten play alone the Hoosiers have been blown out by Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin. That trend continues tonight, even though Maryland is only favored by a couple of possessions.
