The BYU Cougars travel to play the Boise State Broncos in college football action on Friday night. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have Boise State favored by nearly a touchdown to get the win.
BYU obviously isn't going to be the same without quarterback Taysom Hill. The Cougars had won four straight games and were the potential college playoff buster at the end of September, but Hill was injured against Utah State and BYU hasn't been able to recover. Christian Stewart has stepped in and thrown seven touchdown passes, but replacing the dual threat Heisman potential of Hill at the quarterback position is impossible.
The Broncos have won the last three games in this series and should be pushing it to four straight. Boise State has really played some good football this year, only with a couple of losses, one to open the season against Ole Miss. Then they got drilled a couple weeks later by Air Force, falling behind 28-0 before scoring two late touchdowns. Grant Hedrick threw four interceptions in that game for Boise State, but has since guided the Broncos to a pair of wins in the Mountain West over Nevada and Fresno State.
BYU's defense was once a major force but in being on the field as much as they have been lately, it's tough to keep opponents from scoring. Boise has averaged 32 points per game this year with Jay Ajayi rushing for five yards per carry and 10 touchdowns.
Ajayi has really come on for the Broncos as well, getting 152 yards and three scores against Nevada while adding 158 on the ground and two scores last week against Fresno State. Expect him to have a big game in this one against a BYU defense that has to be dealing with some fatigue and pressure to keep opposing teams off the scoreboard.
Boise has won all three games at home this season, expect it to move to four games.
