NFL Football New York Jets at New England Patriots Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Jets vs. Patriots: Breaking Down New England's Game Plan

The New England Patriots welcome in the New York Jets in NFL Football action Thursday night. The game is scheduled for an 8:25 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS and the NFL Network. Currently the odds for the game have New England favored by a comfortable margin in this one.

The Jets have started out the season with a 1-5 record but Rex Ryan is refusing to make a quarterback change. He believes his team can somehow still make the playoffs, but then again when making the kind of money he is, wouldn't you also say the necessary things to keep your boss as pleased as possible?

It won't work. The Jets are going to get drilled tonight. While New York played fairly well against Denver last week, a pick-six to end the game thrown by Geno Smith to Aqib Talib to add insult to their injury.

New England is favored by double digits despite both teams coming off a short week and the Patriots having to travel back home after beating Buffalo on the road on Sunday.

The Jets have yet to cover the spread this season, going 0-5-1 while the Pats are 3-3. The bad numbers for New York don't stop there — the Jets rank worst in the league at -9 in the turnover department this season. That's one worse than Washington, Jacksonville and New Orleans.

New England's defense hasn't been poor this season, either. The Pats rank third best in the league at allowing just 208 yards per game to opponents through the air. Can Smith and the Jets find a way to move the ball vertically down the field against New England? Might not be smart to bank on that as the Jets are the worst team in the league passing-wise, averaging just over 182 yards per game.

Tom Brady has the Patriots looking to rebound from a couple of bad road losses. To open the season the Pats lost at Miami and then followed that up a couple weeks later with a loss to the Chiefs. In both games the Patriot defense couldn't get off the field and they gave up a combined 74 points. In their wins, New England hasn't given up more than 22 points in any single game. Their defense will be the key to success tonight as they force the Jets into problems, turnovers and the inability to move the ball effectively.
