The South Carolina Gamecocks hit the road in an SEC clash with the Vanderbilt Commodores in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the SEC Network. Currently the odds for the game have South Carolina favored by three touchdowns on the road.
As awful as South Carolina was to open the season by getting drilled by Texas A&M, the Gamecocks have responded well. They won a tough game at home against East Carolina and knocked off sixth-ranked Georgia last week. This is a game the Gamecocks should absolutely have no problem winning. Vanderbilt is just not a good football program now that James Franklin bolted town to take the Penn State gig.
Vandy was drilled in the opening week of the season by perennial-bottom feeder Temple. The next week they were drilled again by Ole Miss before squeaking by Massachusetts last week. Vanderbilt had to come from behind in that one as the Minutemen led by double digits entering the fourth quarter.
Derek Mason might want to begin thinking about next year. The Commodores aren't going anywhere this season and the schedule won't be doing them any favors, either. Vandy MIGHT be favored in a couple of games the rest of the way, taking on both Charleston Southern and Old Dominion later this year. Other than that, expect the Commodores to continue getting beat like a drum.
South Carolina has responded well to their season-opening loss and now they believe they can win the SEC East again. Dylan Thompson has thrown for better than 900 yards this season and eight touchdowns already. Vanderbilt has given up 37 points per game this year, so the Gamecocks should have no problems scoring.
Don't expect a South Carolina letdown here. The Gamecocks have found a way back into the conference talk and they will take advantage in this one. Thompson will have no problem moving South Carolina down the field and if they can convert once they are in the red zone, this one could get ugly.
