2014 Auburn Tigers Football Schedule, Preview

Auburn Football: Tigers Shouldn't Worry About QB Nick Marshall...Yet

The Auburn Tigers picked up arguably the biggest win of the season last year when they shocked the world and beat Alabama. The 2014 Auburn Tigers Schedule opens up with a conference tilt against Arkansas and only five road games.

Auburn opens the season taking on an Arkansas team and probably won't have starting quarterback Nick Marshall for most of the opening half. Coach Gus Malzahn enters his second year as the skipper in Auburn and said that Marshall, who was busted for pot, would play in the game but not start. Marshall is an excellent player and has a high skill set, which will make the Tigers a very good team again this season. He's a dual-threat guy that threw and ran for more than 1,000 yards last season, totaling 26 touchdowns.

Tre Mason graduated, but they do have a couple of 600-yard backs from last year in Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant coming back to school. They combined for 12 TDs last year. The receiving corps will be good as well, with the school's top five guys in receptions coming back for this season.

The offensive line is going to need some work, but they should figure it out quickly. Having to replace a guy like Greg Robinson on the left side isn't going to be easy.

Defensively Auburn gave up more than 24 points to opponents per game last season, but that includes 41 to Texas A&M, 35 to LSU and 38 to Georgia. They managed to only lose twice (once in the national championship game to Florida State) and once to the Tigers of LSU, so the defense at least has the understanding of being good enough to win games.

The Tigers will continue to run the football and pile up the yardage offensively. A tough road test, on Thursday night, at Kansas State in the third week of the season could be tricky, but Auburn should be undefeated heading into their Oct. 4 battle with LSU. We're not saying that they will make the playoffs, but this could be another special season for the Tigers.
