The NFL Preseason continues tonight as the San Francisco 49ers take on the Baltimore Ravens. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the NFL Network. Currently the odds for the game have Baltimore favored at home.
It's no shock that many preseason games don't see starters play much, if at all. But preseason games can always be important for coaching staffs and players alike. In tonight's game we don't expect a lot of big names to play, but it still should be an exciting game to watch.
Baltimore went 8-8 last season, getting out-scored by 32 points for the year. Joe Flacco didn't perform up to his Super Bowl MVP status and Ray Rice had a subpar year at running back. Everyone knows about the Rice situation and he is suspended the opening two games of the season. It will be interesting to see what the response is for Rice once he is back in the game.
Both the Ravens and 49ers were happy with their drafts as they look to build depth on both sides of the football. Carlos Hyde, a rookie running back from Ohio State, was a very nice find for the 49ers in the second round. Expect him to get some carries tonight.
Colin Kaepernick had a successful season last year and is looking to lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl again. With this only being the opening preseason game of the year we don't expect Kaepernick to play more than a possession or two and it's hard to determine what kind of impact he will have on the game.
But with guys still looking to prove themselves, we'll take the 49ers in this one.
