The UNLV Runnin Rebels are looking to build off last season's success and build a winning program. The 2014 UNLV Runnin Rebels Schedule might keep them from accomplishing that goal two years in a row.
The Rebels made a bowl game last year, falling to North Texas in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Bobby Hauck enters his fifth year at the helm of the Runnin Rebels, whose bowl contest was the first since 2000. The Rebels started last year 0-2 but found a way to win seven games, also beating Nevada in Reno for the first time in more than 30 years.
Hauck and his club dodged a bullet this off-season, too. It was initially reported that the Rebs would be on a one-year academic probation because their overall grades were not high enough for the new sanctions in college football. Yet, that was later overturned and now the Rebels have no problems this season, as they are bowl eligible again after qualifying for the Academic Progress Rate.
The defense should be better this season and the offensive line is better as well. They'll have to find a new quarterback, probably Nick Sherry, to run the offense because of Caleb Herring's graduation. But there is good news with Devante Davis coming back to school — he caught 87 passes last year, 14 of which went for touchdowns. Fellow senior Marcus Sullivan caught 45 passes last season, which should give the Rebels some solid production from the receiver position this year.
If the Rebs can survive and win enough of their six road games, this team could be bowling again this season. The opener at Arizona is going to be very tough but they follow that up with winnable games.
