The Boise State Broncos are starting a new regime with coach Bryan Harsin. The 2014 Boise State Broncos Schedule starts with an SEC opponent in Ole Miss and features some solid competition this year.
Chris Peterson won a lot of games as the head coach of the Boise State program. Now he's off to bigger and better things as the coach of the Washington Huskies. But just how will the Boise State program respond? Harsin takes over for Peterson with a team that has a lot of talent and key players returning.
Boise went just 8-5 last season, losing to Oregon State in the Hawaii Bowl.
At the center of the offense will be junior tailback Jay Ajayi, who ran for better than 1,400 yards last season and scored 18 touchdowns. He averaged almost six yards per carry for the Broncos, who are going to want to ground and pound with him consistently all season. There is some shuffling going on for the offensive line, but expect them to get it figured out quickly.
Quarterback Grant Hendrick tossed just five picks last season and 16 touchdowns on better than 1,800 yards through the air. When the offensive line solidifies and Boise State has no problems protecting, the Bronco offense should be able to move the ball and score points.
Defensively, Boise State needs to get better. They gave up almost 250 yards through the air, which is something the Broncos want to get better at this coming season. They've got eight overall starters coming back on the defensive side of the rock and that should help them get better.
Boise has a favorable schedule with key home games against Fresno, BYU and Utah State. If they can take care of business on the road the Broncos should be fighting for a Mountain West title.
