The New York Yankees travel south tonight to take on the Texas Rangers. The game is scheduled for an 8:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv. Currently the Major League Baseball Odds for the game have the Rangers as a comfortable favorite in this one.
Yu Darvish is getting the ball tonight. He's been one of the best starters in baseball the past couple of years, but the Texas team has been just awful this season. They probably aren't going to sell off a lot of assets at the deadline because they still have a decent window to win in the next few years. They've been banged up and obviously aren't going anywhere this season, but it's hard to ignore them with Darvish on the mound.
Yet, it's worth noting that he has struggled lately — going just 1-2 with a 5.32 ERA over his last four outings. He lost a rain-shortened game to the Yankees last week. Darvish, however, is 2-1 with a 1.85 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees.
The Yankees are 7-3 in the last 10 games overall while the Rangers are just 3-7 in their last 10 games. David Phelps is going to take the ball tonight. He's 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA over his last five outings and he's 5-4 on the season. But Phelps has been inconsistent on the road this season. He's gone just 1-3 with a 4.96 ERA in nine starts away from Yankee Stadium.
New York has lost eight of those nine Phelps starts away from home.
The Yankees still have something to fight for this season while Texas is just waiting for the season to end.
Darvish is going to give his best effort again, but tonight he's going to have to carry the Rangers to a win. With his recent success against the Yanks, we like him to get the win in a close one.
