Sunday Night Baseball Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

The New York Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox tonight in Sunday Night Baseball. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have the Red Sox favored on the road.

The Yankees and Red Sox are playing the fourth and final matchup of this series. New York won on both Thursday and Saturday, with the Red Sox looking to get their second win of the series tonight. Major League Baseball has just passed the 10-game mark for their clubs and we are starting to see what teams are going to be around in the later months. Neither the Red Sox or Yankees are hitting as well as they'd like to, but we do expect these teams to be around come September.

Boston currently sits in last place in the American League East with a 5-7 record. The Tampa Bay Rays lead the division with a 7-5 recor, so there is not a large gap between the five clubs. The Yankees, Orioles and Blue Jays all are ahead of Boston in the standings.

Yankee manager Joe Girardi told the media he's not managing a farewell tour when asked why Derek Jeter wasn't in the lineup yesterday. The captain is expected to be out at shortstop in tonight's game and he has just two hits in 14 at bats against Boston starter Felix Doubront, who was 0-1 with a 14.09 ERA in his final two matchups with the Yankees in 2013 after going 3-1 with a 2.17 ERA in his first six career starts against them.

Ivan Nova is getting the ball tonight for the Yankees. He's 1-1 with an ERA of 8.68 on the season. He gave up seven runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings against Baltimore on Tuesday. Against the Red Sox last season he was 0-1 with an ERA of 7.88 in two appearances, not getting past the fifth inning in either contest. Current Red Sox have a .284 average against Nova in 81 plate appearances. David Ortiz has six hits, including a home run, in 16 at bats.

Current Yankees hit .244 against Doubront in 86 appearances. Ichiro Suzuki, who hasn't been seeing a lot of action as an everyday player, has just two hits in 13 at bats. The Yankees will be looking to get more of a contribution from him moving forward. Kelly Johnson has four hits in 13 at bats against Doubront while Alfonso Soriano is 3-for-5 with two home runs against Doubront.

In this one, we like the Yankees to get the win. Neither team has been hitting the ball well but the Yankees have been hitting Boston pitching fairly well in this series, collecting 28 hits in the three previous games.

Free Pick: New York 6, Boston 4
