The newly-ranked No. 1 Florida Gators hit the road tonight in SEC college basketball action when they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have Florida favored by a couple of possessions in this one.
Florida is considered by many to be the most well-rounded team in America. Now they're ranked No. 1 and will have to prove their worthy. Five teams have been ranked No. 1 this season but that's how college basketball works in today's game with nearly every team eventually losing, whether it's on the road or to a conference opponent. The Gators have already lost twice this season, but are unblemished in the SEC. Florida hasn't been ranked No. 1 since 2007.
Billy Donovan always gets the best of his players. The Gators struggled against Mississippi on Saturday, but came from behind in order to beat the Rebels. Scottie Wilbekin and Michael Frazier II combined to toss in 35 points as Florida improved to 8-2 on the road this season.
Vandy has gone 10-4 in their home games this season and are just 7-7 in conference play this season. Florida can win the next two games and secure themselves a conference championship, which they will probably get. A win here tonight over Vandy and a victory over LSU Saturday would crown the Gators.
The Commodores knocked off Auburn on Saturday with Da-Jon Parker scoring a career-high 21 points. They trailed by 16 points in that game but were able to come back and pick up that victory. With the revolving SEC schedule, this will be the only scheduled meeting between these team this year.
Dorian Finney-Smith and Patric Young are going to crash the boards all night for Florida. If Vanderbilt isn't able to rebound and gives the Gators second chance opportunities they'll get blown out. Florida has won 19 games in a row and are rolling right now. We don't see Vandy being able to stop them tonight.
