The New Mexico Lobos hit the road tonight in Mountain West college basketball action when they take on the Boise State Broncos. The game is scheduled for a 9:15 (EST) start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have Boise State favored at home in this matchup.
New Mexico is 9-1 in Mountain West conference action so far this season with their only loss coming to the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. They're 18-4 overall and haven't lost since Jan. 15 against the Rebs. The Lobos' other three losses include UMass, Kansas and instate rival New Mexico State. This should be a pretty solid game between teams that can score, but how will the game be played?
The Lobos want to get the ball inside to bruisers Alex Kirk and Cameron Bairstow. Paired with impressive guard Kendall Williams, New Mexico has an offensive club that can run and gun or beat you up on the interior. New Mexico will want to probably play in the half court offensively in this one. The Lobos should be able to beat up Boise State on the glass and in the paint.
Boise State has lost three straight games overall to UNLV, San Diego State by just a bucket and Utah State. The Broncos can shoot the ball and score a lot of points, but we expect them to get beat up possession after possession from this big, physical New Mexico squad.
The Broncos are not a great rebounding team. The Lobos are a good rebounding team. That should be a big indicator of how this game should go. If Boise State doesn't shoot well and can't get second chance opportunities against New Mexico they're going to be in trouble.
Obviously, playing on the road in conference is not very easy. It's been showcased throughout all of college basketball that getting wins on the road isn't easy. But we like the Lobos here as underdogs.
