The Miami Dolphins, a surprise contender in the AFC East, will attempt keep a leg up on the division rival Jets today when the two teams clash at MetLife Stadium in New York (1:00pm ET start time, CBS). The Joe Philbin era in Miami got off to the kind of start most expected it would with the team losing three of its first four games, but it managed to recover from its difficult first quarter by winning back to back games before last week’s bye.

The Dolphins upended the Bengals 17-13 in Cincinnati three weeks ago and they knocked off the Rams 17-14 at Sun Life Stadium before last Sunday’s respite.

The continued growth of rookie signal caller Ryan Tannehill played a big part in Miami’s two most recent victories. The Texas A&M product stayed out of the turnover column while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes.

New York, which is coming off a near miss at New England in which it lost 29-26 in overtime, could make life a little more difficult for the rookie today, though. The Jets defense is not as good as the Rams unit and it is comparable to the Bengals, but the environment will be the most raucous Tannehill has faces thus far.

Still, with two weeks to prepare, the Dolphins and Tannehill should be able to give the occasionally overvalued Jets all they can handle. Miami nearly beat New York the first time these two teams met this season (lost 23-20 in overtime at Sun Life Stadium on September 23rd) and it has won and covered the spread in three of its last four visits to the Big Apple.
