Pete Carroll’s return to the NFL has been a tease thus far. Seattle has made strides under the former USC front man, but the team has yet to really impress, finishing with a 7-9 record in each of the last two seasons. Perhaps Carroll and the Seahawks can do a bit more this year; at least one odds maker expects them to anyway. Seattle Seahawks 2012 NFL Predictions and Super Bowl Odds at Sportsbook.ag have Carroll’s troops favored, at -155 odds ($155 to win $100), to win Over seven games. The Seahawks are a second pick to win the NFC West, drawing +375 division odds, but they remain a long shot to win either the NFC Championship (+3000 odds) or Super Bowl (+6000).
Seattle field one of the better defenses in the league last season, holding its opposition to an average of 332.2 yards and 19.7 points per game. Unfortunately for Carroll, his offense was abysmal, finishing in the bottom third of the NFL in both points and yards.
Quarterback was a major problem for Seattle as Tarvaris Jackson, who came over from Minnesota, completed just over 60 percent of his passes while throwing 14 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. The Seahawks addressed the weakness in the off-season by signing Green Bay back up Matt Flynn and drafting Wisconsin signal caller Russell Wilson.
While Flynn is an unproven commodity, he appears to be an upgrade over Jackson, who is better suited for a reserve role.
The change under center has some convinced Seattle is headed for greener pastures in 2012, but Cantor Gaming of Las Vegas is skeptical. Cantor, which issued 2012 NFL regular season point spreads for weeks one through 16 in May, has the Seahawks favored in five of 15 games.
